By Jan Schroder “The shower is flooding the entire bathroom!” I yelled as I got out and ran dripping, naked and panicked into the main room of our cabin. So much for that romantic weekend away we had so looked forward to. Instead of relaxing with a glass of wine, we were hurriedly rescuing our suitcases and shoes from the rising water and hoping we could escape out a window.
“Plan a romantic getaway.” How many times have you read that advice aimed at couples wanting to reconnect and rekindle their relationship? But what happens when your getaway only leads to more stress? Or a water evacuation?
The #2 factor in determining a successful romantic getaway is picking a stress-free destination. For me, that means an all-inclusive resort. Once you arrive, you never have to leave or spend time researching where to get your next meal. Several dining opportunities are just a short walk away, and there’s no worrying about the cost of that additional appetizer, second glass of Champagne or limoncello nightcap.
As soon as I was welcomed with a cool glass of a refreshing coconut concoction and had a warm scented neck wrap placed around my shoulders during the check-in process I knew Le Blanc Spa Resort was perfect for couples looking for the ultimate getaway. For starters, the resort is for adults only. That’s another crucial factor.
In addition to lounging or walking on the beautiful beach, enjoying stellar service from the butlers on your floor, staring at the water from the edge of the infinity pool with a frosty ginger mojito in your hand or taking a dip in the warm waters of the Caribbean, here are three other activities to enjoy with your significant other at this resort in Cancun, Mexico, just 25 minutes from the airport.
1. Bubbles, bubbles everywhere Fill your glasses with Champagne and slip into a bubble-filled double Jacuzzi tub, with a view of the palm-tree dotted white sands and turquoise blue ocean below. You’ll feel like the luckiest couple alive. Unlike those annoying, nonsensical separate bathtubs in the Cialis ads, these double tubs are inviting with plenty of room for both of you.
2. Spa sanctuary The hotel rooms with those wonderful tubs and beds so comfortable it’s like slipping into a hug already provide blessed sanctuary. But don’t overlook the delights of the Awe-Spa. Couples can be scrubbed, massaged and enjoy facials together. Or try the Pul Yha Ceremony, which includes an ocean wrap, aloe very massage and ocean facial.
3. Elegant evenings Start with an evening cocktail while enjoying live entertainment in the lobby where the sophisticated neutral color scheme is enhanced by the lit-up bright blue bottles lining the back of the bar. Afterwards, stroll by the pool downstairs to Lumiere. I doubt this formal restaurant was named after the singing candelabra from “Beauty and the Beast,” but his lyrics “Be… our… guest, be our guest, put our service to the test” would apply to your dining experience where you can enjoy a seven-course tasting menu of French-fusion dishes. Le Blanc has it all for a romantic getaway — the setting, the service and the amenities. Except for that #1 factor for a successful trip — the person you’ve chosen to bring along. That’s the only part they leave up to you.
Le Blanc Spa Resort: 260 rooms, 5 restaurants, 5 bar. $463 per person per night, double occupancy. Includes all taxes and gratuity.
